What an experience! It’s easy to see, within the first few minutes, why History of House is a sell-out, award winning performance.
The moment the countdown starts you are captivated by the energy and the musical talent of the Soweto Gospel Choir. It’s almost as if the crowd can sense the gifted nature and genius that follow the choir and ARIA nominated DJ Groove.
Nothing prepares you for the sensory overload you experience as you travel through the musical ages of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s all the way through to the end of the millennium.
You can’t help but sing, dance and be amazed at the choir group. Their talent surpasses any expectation you may have, even if you have heard of the group before. As someone who had never previously heard about the group, I was in awe of their very presence and vivacious nature.
The crowd relishes the journey through the history of dance music and are on their feet for the full 90 minutes as they sing and sway to the music of the ages. The opportunity for members of the crowd to join the group on stage is taken so willingly. That is the magnificent effect the group has on the mesmerised audience.
This collaboration is just what the audience needs post pandemic. But it’s more than that. It is light, love of sound and connection and a celebration of culture. It brings us back to life.
This performance was the highlight of the Adelaide Fringe 2023 and the perfect way to end the season.
